Bexley welcomes two new yoga studios

Yoga really began to change my life about one year ago when I started to practice on my own, and realized my passion for teaching yoga. Luckily for all us yogis and those interested in starting yoga, two new yoga studios have opened up right here in Bexley: Blue Spot Yoga and Bexley Yoga.

Bexley Yoga, located right on Drexel Avenue near Cherbourg Bakery, opened up in December right before Capital was let out for winter break.

Bexley Yoga is a one-room studio with an elegant and light feel. Near the entrance, there is a curtain that hides the studio from the front desk and cubbies where you can keep your belongings during class.

Behind the curtain is a room full of mirrors with a hardwood floor, complete with ballet bars used for the studio’s barre classes. The silver ornate ceiling adds beauty to the studio. Complete with a bathroom and kitchenette area behind the studio room, Bexley Yoga has almost anything a yogi might need.

As many yogis know, there is a lot that goes into making a yoga class great–from the prices, the style of the class, the atmosphere of the studio, the vibes of the instructor, and most importantly, the quality of the flow.

I attended two of the hot power vinyasa classes, one in the evening and one early in the morning. Although both classes were vigorous and overall good, both teachers seemed a bit nervous and possibly like they may be new at teaching–this could have been because it was the first week the studio was open, however.

The second studio, which opened more recently, is Blue Spot Yoga. The studio popped up over Capital’s winter break and is located right across from Capital in the plaza next to Christ Lutheran Church.

Blue Spot Yoga is a chain studio, although you would never know if not for their array of yoga attire, mats, cleaners, balms, and other yoga accessories.

Although Blue Spot only has one studio room, the entire complex is quite roomy, with a separate room with a coat rack and cubbies for belongings. The studio also has a bathroom complete with a shower for anyone who needs to clean up after a sweaty class.

The entire complex has dark, hard wood floors that give the studio a very natural and peaceful feel. The studio room has one large window looking out onto Main Street and part of Capital, which is quite lovely during one of their morning or evening classes when the sun is setting or rising.

I went to an hour power flow class with heat. The class was an intense workout but still very relaxing with great teaching.

At the end of the class, everyone received a lavender-soaked towel to put over their eyes or face, which adds one last touch of relaxation to the class.

Both Bexley Yoga and Blue Spot yoga are great options for anyone at Capital that loves yoga, as both are located within walking distance.

Both studios offer a wide variety of classes, including hot yoga for those looking for a more advanced practice, as well as options for those who are just starting out.

Unfortunately, both studios are somewhat expensive. They charge $18 for a drop-in class. Luckily, students get a discount at both studios, bringing the cost down to $15 a class. Class packages and unlimited monthly options are also available at both studios for those who plan to go to class often. These packages are often a better deal, depending on how often you plan to do yoga.

Both studios are a great addition to Bexley, and it will be great for those passionate about yoga to have a place to take a hot yoga class right across the street from campus.
