Haunted houses close to campus

Haunted Hoochie

About: Haunted Hoochie is by far the most popular haunted house in the central Ohio area. On their website, they call themselves “the world’s most extreme haunted house” and warn visitors that the attraction is a “full sensory assault” that contains graphic and violent horror that may be offensive and unsuitable for some audiences. The house has been named one of the most outrageous haunted houses in America. The attraction is open Thursday through Saturday starting at around 8:30 p.m. until Oct. 27.

Location: 13861 Broad St. SW, Pataskala, OH 43062, about 25 minutes from campus.

Ticket information: Regular tickets are $25 and VIP skip-the-line tickets are $45. Tickets can be purchased in advance at deadacres.com.

Jail of Terror

About: This haunted house is held each year in the Licking County Historic Jail, a building that was deemed haunted by the team from Travel Channel’s show Ghost Adventures. Visitors will walk through the dungeon as well as the first and second floors of the jail’s cellblock, where horror waits around each corner. Those who aren’t interested in getting spooked can take a mini tour of the jail’s living quarters. The attraction is open from 7 p.m. to midnight every Friday and Saturday in October.

Location: 46 S. Third St. Newark, OH 43055, about 40 minutes from campus.

Ticket information: Regular tickets are $18 and VIP skip-the-line tickets are $25. Tickets can be purchased in advance at lcjail.org.

Pataskala Haunted Forest

About: According to their website, the Pataskala Haunted Forest is the longest-running haunted attraction in central Ohio. The attraction features a 45-minute trek through the pitch black woods. The haunt is run entirely volunteers and the proceeds from the event benefit the local Lion’s club and Southwest Licking Youth Football & Cheerleaders. The attraction is open every Friday and Saturday throughout October and they sell tickets from 7 p.m. to midnight each night.

Location: 8838 Refugee Rd SW Pataskala, OH 43062, about 25 minutes from campus.

Ticket information: Tickets are $15 at the door, but a coupon for $2 off is available on their website.

Carnage

About: According to their website, Carnage features 30 “highly detailed rooms guaranteed to scare” and is located just a few minutes away from campus on Alum Creek Dr. This house is open each weekend throughout October. The haunt is open Thursdays and Sundays from 7:30-10 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 p.m. to midnight. This haunt is also open on Halloween from 7:30-10 p.m.

Location: 1160 Alum Creek Dr. Suite B, Columbus, OH 43209, about 5 minutes from campus.

Ticket information: Tickets are $2o for general admission and $27 for skip-the-line passes. Tickets can be purchased in advance at carnagehauntedhouse.com.
