This Saturday, Jan. 28, Delta Phi Epsilon sorority will be hosting their first 65 Roses Gala as a fundraising event to support the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation.
The 65 Roses Gala idea came from when a mother who had a young son suffering from Cystic Fibrosis overheard his mother on the phone and reassured her that they could easily find sixty-five roses to make her feel better. It has since become one of the main charity and awareness raising events for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The event is formal and will be in the Schneider Multipurpose Room of Capital’s Campus Center. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour and a Jazz ensemble and will continue into the evening at 7:30 with a banquet and an oldies band. The Gala will also have a silent auction made possible through the donations and sponsorship of local Columbus businesses.
Senior and President of Delta Phi Epsilon, Marci Shafer, expressed the excitement as well as the importance of the event as it is Delta Phi Epsilon’s first major charitable event since becoming a fully chartered chapter on May 1, 2011.
“Ultimately, I want this to become something that takes place every year and becomes greater each year to raise awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and to encourage the community to consider contributing to such an important cause,” Shafer said.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is one of three philanthropies that Delta Phi Epsilon supports in its organization. The other philanthropies are the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) and the Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation.
Junior and Vice President of Programming for Delta Phi Epsilon, Ashley Thorbahn was enthusiastic of the support that Capital’s community has given towards the 65 Roses Gala thus far.
“Capital’s Student Government has been invaluable in its support towards making this event a huge success. So far we’ve sold over 50 tickets and I’m hoping that we can raise awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation within the Cap community,” Thorbahn said.
Tickets for the Gala are $25 before the event, and $35 at the door. Students who would like to attend are encouraged to RSVP by emailing 65rosesdphie@gmail.com.
