You can now get a closer look at one of the greatest rock bands in history, The Beatles, in the Schumacher Gallery, located on the fourth floor of the library. The gallery is currently presenting the award winning exhibit, The Beatles! Backstage and Behind the Scenes.
This traveling exhibit was originally created by CBS and directed by John Filo. Consisting of extremely rare and previously unpublished black and white prints found in CBS’s archives, the exhibit won the Computerworld Honors Program Laureate Award.
Among the prints are photos of crazed fans at concerts, waiting outside hotels for a glimpse of the Fab Four, and even being held back by police outside of concert halls. A number of media professionals can be seen playfully copying the iconic hairstyle brought about by the band.
However, there is no lack of the guys themselves. Paul, John, Ringo, and George can be seen backstage or on their American premiere, rocking the Ed Sullivan show, switching instruments during rehearsals, modeling at professional photo shoots, and hanging out at the beach or around New York City.
Photographer Bill Eppridge was assigned The Beatles during their debut into the United States. In addition to taking many of the photos found in the exhibit, quite a few quotes on the men from Eppridge can be found among the descriptions next to each photo.
Appropriately, the background music in the gallery is the many hits from The Beatles.
To experience the lives and careers of these four legendary men, the exhibit will be open to visit now until March 22, Monday through Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
