Update on university, community cooperation

by Aaron Butts

Last week The Chimes ran a story about the new Capital seal that was placed at the intersection of Main and Drexel. In the article, Richard Ashbrook mentioned that this was a harbinger of enhanced cooperation between Bexley and Capital.

Last week there came the most recent example of this new era of cooperation and discussion. In this case, it was regarding the issue of new lights at Bernlohr stadium, which has been a source of contention between the two entities at the end of last semester.

“As a result of the public meetings held in October and November, a small working group was formed to continue discussions,” Ashbrook said. “The group met for the first time this past Friday and will continue to meet at least weekly in the short term.”

The administration can only hope that these new discussions will be a new chapter in the stadium lights negotiations. Not only does this new discussion help Capital achieve their long-term goals, it also works to further improve the relationship the school has with Bexley.

“Capital, of course, welcomes these opportunities for conversations with Bexley residents, the goal of which is to understand one another’s perspectives,” Ashbrook said.
