If you are sitting at home contemplating how to become one with your intrinsic nerdiness, hath not fear, Ohayocon is here. Yes, it is that time of year when you can discover you are not alone in your love for subversive Japanese Culture.
From Anime to tabletop gaming, Ohayocon is a broad celebration for “all things nerd” –a declaration of offbeat counter-culture. Held at The Greater Columbus Convention Center, Ohayocon is a two-day festival where like-minded geeks dress up as their favorite pop-culture icons and wander around from event to event posing for photos and purchasing Japanese-themed relics.
Some of the events include gaming tournaments, from Magic the Gathering to Mortal Kombat, cosplay workshops, art contests, and Anime themed lectures from a variety of Manga scholars.
To finish it off, Ohayocon ceremoniously ends with a dance party bash, which is always fun if you enjoy dancing with your favorite fictional characters. Who doesn’t want to boogie with Ash Ketchum, or that weird mustached villain from Sonic the Hedgehog?
So whether you have $60 for an all-inclusive weekend pass, or just want to wonder the halls and admire over-the-top outfits, Ohayocon is a judgment free zone where you can finally be proud to be a socially awkward deviant.
Ohayocon takes place Friday January 30th and runs through Sunday February 1st, and is located in the Columbus Convention Center.
