Kaleb Perez is a senior studying biology/pre-med, and he spends an average of $200 on textbooks each semester. He recently found a new place to buy textbooks called The Big Word (www.bigword.com). Perez said that he got a $180 textbook for a total of $19 on this site. A textbook that Perez bought but never used was his oral communications textbook, and his most useful textbook was his Spanish one, because he used it every day.
Kelsey Hoover is a first-year studying marketing, and she typically buys her textbooks from either the Capital bookstore or Chegg. She says that the best deals can be found online or through other students, and she spends an average of $250 on textbooks each semester. Hoover states that her least useful textbook was also for oral communications, and her most useful book was for her intro to business class. When asked why, Hoover stated, “I actually had to read it last semester to do well in the class.”
Lindsay Abramowitz is a sophomore studying education IS, and she spends an average of $200 each semester to buy textbooks. She gets them from the bookstore or Amazon and believes that Amazon has the best deals. When asked what textbook she bought and did not need, Abramowitz replied, “I haven’t bought one yet that I didn’t need for my class.” Her most useful textbook was her Children with Exceptionalities one, she said, because “it has the most focus on strategies for the field that I am going into.”
Julianna Schrote is a first-year studying electronic media and film, and she only spends an average of $50 or less each semester. Schrote gets all of her textbooks from Amazon, and when asked where the best deals were, she stated that she does not look for deals. Her least useful textbook was her media and society one because she never used it. Her intro to theatre textbook was her most useful one she has bought so far because they had a quiz from the book every week.
Mikaela Wiecher is a senior studying exercise science/pre-PT. She spends an average of $600 each semester and says that one semester she spent a total of $1,000. She buys all of her textbooks from the bookstore but thinks that Amazon has the best deals. Wiecher states that she never used her oral communications or cultural pluralism textbooks. Anatomy and exercise science were her most useful textbooks because they both relate to the study she is going for, and it was easy to reference them. She kept her exercise book for future references in her career because of how useful it was.
Jason Fugate is a junior studying financial economics, and he spends between $200-250 a semester on textbooks. He gets all his books from Amazon because he believes that is where to get the best deals. Fugate says that he normally does not buy books he thinks he won’t need, but his BUS-101 textbook was the least useful. Fugate stated that his calculus textbook was his most useful because it carried over to several different classes as well.
