Why you should go to as many concerts as you can

Everyone likes music. Whether it is heavy metal, country or K-pop, no one out there can say that they don’t enjoy the rhythmic sounds of instruments every once in awhile.

But instead of just sitting alone and jamming to your favorite artists, why not kick it up a notch and go to one of their concerts? Yeah, yeah, I know — some of them might not be alive or together or touring (I’m still upset I never got the chance to see My Chemical Romance). But there’s always someone, especially here in Columbus.

Believe it or not, there are actual benefits to taking a night to experience this.

Exercise is the obvious physical benefit. Dancing and jumping and moshing (oh my!) all require a whole lot of energy. There’s no doubt that you’ll sweat off, like, half of your body weight in the few hours that you’re living your best life.

The mental benefits are almost endless, though.

Going to a concert is a huge stress relief. You lose yourself in the moment; none of your other problems matter. Relationship hardships, home life, and school stress all dissolve into the adrenaline-filled air and all that matters is that one specific moment.

With stress relief often comes happiness, too. Following the event, you feel a sense of bliss that you didn’t have before. The adrenaline stays in your system, and the happiness continues to last for a long while, even when you’re at home and in bed after the evening. I have been to more concerts and festivals than I can count, and I can honestly say that they have all been the happiest moments of my life.

And most importantly, the friendships you make are eternal. When you go see your favorite band, you’re surrounded by people who love the same things that you love. You get to talking about music, art, literature, dumb memes — the whole nine yards. There’s a sense of unity that exists in the air between everyone in the room.

Go to concerts. Go see your favorite band. You’ll make memories to last a lifetime. It will be one of the best days of your entire life, and it’ll make you happier than you can imagine.
