Well, folks—it’s here. As the end of time approaches and we steadily mark off the days until obliteration or whatever is supposed to happen in December of this year, the National Geographic Channel provides us with a first-hand account of the everyday lives of some really odd Americans.
For the majority of us, the end of the world isn’t exactly in our foreseeable future. If that’s the case for you then sit back, relax and make sure you Tivo this ridiculousness so that generations of your offspring are able to bathe in the vast depths of “reality television programming” in the new millennium!
Doomsday Preppers, a new reality television show, revolves around the lives of certain Americans as they ready themselves and their families for the fallout.
These people have spent millions of dollars in preparation buying countless cans of food, meals that are ready to eat and fortifying their homes in case of the worst. They’ve spent countless hours for many years teaching their young children how to use firearms and fend in the “frontier” that is modern America.
Don’t worry, Doomsday Preppers, we totally did all that too. Not.
Come on, people: if the world is going to end do you honestly think that you and your thirteen socially-inept children with sub-machine guns and hand-grenades are going to be able to take on the carnage that is to arise after whatever the hell you think is going to happen happens? Let’s be real for a minute.
The only person capable of feats of that measure is Beyonce and Jay-Z’s Christ-child, otherwise known by her birth name, Blue Ivy. And I’m pretty sure she hasn’t even passed the diaper stage yet.
The preppers though, come in all shapes, sizes and ages.
Megan Hurwitt, dubbed the “Young Urban Prepper” says that she’s preparing “to survive a catastrophic oil crisis.” Duh.
Dennis Evers says that he is prepping himself, along with his wife and eleven children, for a little different reason.
“I’m prepping to protect my family against global chaos caused by hyperinflation,” said Evers.
Same.
The show, which airs Tuesdays on the National Geographic Channel, presents its audience with a question:
Are you ready for doom?
