Intramural Sports back in full swing

With winter feeling more like spring, the super bowl coming up, and the NBA in full swing, it’s the perfect time to talk about sports that anyone can play- intramurals. The winter intramural list includes men’s and women’s basketball, co-ed volleyball, futsal (indoor soccer), and the king of all games, dodgeball. I’ll run through a list of pros and cons for each sport so that picking the one perfect for you will be simple. Anyone interested in learning more about intramurals can email Cody Morris at cmorris3@capital.edu

Futsal Pros: It will really build up your muscles. The ball is smaller than a soccer ball, and also heavier, making it far more dense. Teamwork will be key for anyone trying to take the title in this sport.
Cons: You’ve never heard of this. And neither has anyone else. Also, you kick that ball funny and you have a nice set of dislocated toes.

Co-ed Volleyball
Pros: You can assemble the team in any way you want. No discrimination. Live on a co-ed floor? Make a team with your dorm. This is a great way to socialize with people of both genders.
Cons: Guys, you’re going to feel bad if you accidentally spike the ball into a girls face. Girls, you’re going to laugh really hard if you spike the ball into a guys sweet spot…actually, that sounds hilarious. I’m putting that one up in Pros.

Basketball
Pros: Whether you’re a guy or a girl, basketball is the perfect sport to prove your dominance. Your best five against the other team’s best five. Leave it all on the court! This is the one sport on the list that basically everyone understands, so participation and competition should be high.
Cons: You’re going to be playing against people who still have that inferiority complex that came from getting cut from their high school basketball team. Be prepared for hard fouls fueled by anguish.

Dodgeball
Pros: Saving the best for last. We could fill a page with the Pros of playing dodgeball. The team names, the movie references, the PTSD flashbacks from your middle school gym class, all of it is fantastic. Nothing strikes more fear into the heart of your athletic opponents in any sport than hearing you are a championship dodgeball player. Trust me, I know. I still have my championship t-shirt from the 2009 season.
Cons: None. You have no reason not to sign up. Get out there and duck, dip, dive, and dodge!
