President welcomes new chief of staff

President Bowman has a new right-hand woman. Susan Merryman, formerly the Vice President of Marketing and Communication at the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, joined the office of the president as chief of staff Jan. 4.

President Denvy Bowman introduced new chief of staff Susan Merryman.

With experience working to develop and implement global communication and marketing strategies to make Columbus an attractive business destination, Merryman is widely recognized in her field. She has received a wealth of awards, including the same award more than once.

“Merryman is a proven leader who brings to Capital a rich knowledge base, valued relationships, and an impressive record of success,” Bowman said.

Merryman’s education includes a BA from Otterbein College, MBA from the University of Dayton, and she has served as an adjunct professor in Otterbein’s Communication Department.

Although she hails from Capital’s rival school, it is clear Merryman is familiar with both college students and Midwestern universities. She also has worked to help connect college students with internships at local employers.

“I’ve always enjoyed being on a college campus,” Merryman said. “I really want to help tell the story about Capital’s great students and faculty.”

Drawing on a record of success and excited for a fresh start, Merryman will dedicate her time and energy to “help connect Capital with key constituents” in order to help spread Capital’s image and information. She will also work directly with President Bowman on some projects.

“I think Capital is a great asset to the Columbus community and beyond…it’s a great campus that I am looking forward to helping. I am so thrilled to be here,” Merryman said.
