Breaking: City of Bexley lifts mask mandate, Capital University continues indoor requirement

Yesterday evening, Mayor Ben Kessler announced that the City of Bexley would be lifting its mask mandate for public spaces, effective immediately.

Capital University delivered a formal statement this afternoon making it clear that the University will continue forward with its own indoor masking requirement.

In an email released to the University community, the COVID Response Team gave an explanation for their decision: “The University considers several factors in making decisions on its COVID protocols, including transmission rates in the area, transmission rates at the University, positivity rates, hospitalization rates, and guidance from our local and state health departments.”

At the time of writing, COVID-19 cases have been dropping rapidly the past few weeks according to weekly data collected by the COVID Response Team. With spring break coming up, it appears that the University is being precautious.

The University will continue forward with their indoor mask requirement until March 13, which will be the end of the undergraduate spring break period. In the past, COVID-19 cases tend to surge whenever the campus community goes on break periods. After March 13, the University will do another assessment on whether or not to lift the mask mandate based on campus testing.
