An American Airlines jet and an Army helicopter collided Wednesday night and crashed into the Potomac River, killing 67 people at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The jet carried 64 passengers and the helicopter carried three soldiers.
According to BBC News, 28 people were identified from the crash and 41 bodies were recovered from the river. The remaining bodies are still submerged underwater, and investigators are working to recover both aircrafts.
The official cause of the plane is still unknown, but black boxes have been recovered from the helicopter for evaluation.
On Thursday at his first news conference, President Donald Trump raised his own speculations on the cause of the collision, saying that the DEI programs under the Obama and Biden administrations are possible links to the incompetent handling of the aircrafts.
According to NBC, reporters asked Trump if “he was getting ahead of the investigation into the crash by claiming DEI initiatives were connected.”
Trump said, “I have common sense, OK?”
