A Life to be Remembered: A Student’s Perspective

by Diana Crandall

Our campus has suffered yet another profound loss with the abrupt passing of Professor Lori Solomon on Tuesday, February 19th.

A part-time instructor on campus, she devoted herself fully in teaching students a va- riety of courses in the Political Science department.

Most notably were the two trips that she led to Model United Nations of the Far West in San Francisco, California, during the spring of 2011 and 2012.

She took a total of 19 stu- dents to the conference and dedicated herself wholly to those trips.

I was one of the students that worked with Professor Sol- omon during both of the years that we went to San Francisco. The first year, I was her student, and the second, her apprentice.

I worked alongside my close friend and colleague, Junior Brianna Murphy, who is equally passionate about Model UN and devastated by the news of Professor Solomon’s passing.

“She was a professor who wanted to see her students suc- ceed. We worked together te- diously for two years on the Model UN course, and she was so passionate about it,” Murphy said. “She wanted her students to experience the world as is, rather than through the lens of a textbook.”

In the words of Dr. Brian Wallace, “Professor Solomon will be remembered by those who knew her as a caring friend, innovative colleague, dedicated teacher, and as someone who took so much joy from the success of her students. She will be missed.”
