On March 19, Sigma Alpha Iota held its first Women in Music Leadership Conference.
The event was met with much excitement from the community and was started with an activity by Compass Leader Kelsey Fairchild.
After registration was finished, Fairchild gathered the students present and asked them to look around the room. All around there were quotes posted on the wall from famous figures in history such as Ronald Reagan, Steve Jobs, and Nelson
Mandela. The student were asked to stand by the quote that resonated with them the most.
After the students found the quote they resonated with, the students asked each other more in-depth questions about why the quote resonated with them.
Once the group session ended, Fairchild then gave her opening remarks and spoke of the importance of this type of event.
“This event is meant to inspire women, whether they are in music or not…”
After her address the students were able to go to various workshops that included sessions such asĀ “Music Education”, “Music Marketing and Promotions” led by Megan Ramhoff, “Auditioning and Performances” led by Emily Totedo, and “Music Technology” led by Victoria Butash.
Along with the workshops, there was food, music, and the highlight of the night was the keynote speaker, Donna Wipfli, a known contralto choral conductor.
