Conservatory of Music hosts jazz and musical festival

by Diana Crandall

Sponsored by the Conservatory of Music, the 19th Annual Jazz and Music World Festival began Monday, April 8. The compilation of events runs April 8-26, and features an eclectic mix of musicians, concerts, and workshops.
The event brings together lovers of music both on campus and in the community. Most events are free and open to the public; any events that require payment or are closed to the public will be specified on the online schedule of events, easily found at www.capital.edu/jazzfest.
This Friday, April 12, offers a particularly unique event: The Jazz Ensemble Invitational. This event invites middle, high school, collegiate, and community jazz ensembles for a non-competitive, educational setting that invites individuals from within a five-state region.
Judges that are nationally and internationally recognized will be present at the event to give constructive and educational feedback to all groups.
This Saturday, April 13, students, families and the public can come enjoy the Reflections Street Festival. Bring your picnic baskets and non-alcoholic beverages for an afternoon of entertainment and fun.
Snacks will be offered next to Yochum Hall throughout the festival: Pitabilities, a mobile cupcake bakery, will be offered alongside a Burrito Bus. Parkhurst will offer beer, wine, and concessions for purchase.
Alongside food and beverages, the student art sale will be taking place at the fountains. All purchases must be made in cash.
Any events cancelled by rain or snow will be publicized by 5 p.m. the day before the event. Questions or concerns should be directed to Nichole Johnson, Dr. Lou Fischer, or professor Jeff Shaw.
