Students sacrifice shoes for awareness

by Becca Muntean

Tom’s One Day Without Shoes is an event dedicated to promoting awareness of less fortunate people who cannot afford shoes. Tom’s is known for its business strategy to send a pair of shoes to a person in Africa for every pair they sell. Many students participated in the event on Tuesday, April 16, and roamed campus unclad.
Capital’s student engagement has always backed this event. The environmental club held sign-ups for students and faculty to pledge their shoelessness, and ReCap, Capital’s literary arts magazine, held a shoe drive for the Columbus Open Shelter in support of the event.
The magazine staff collected well over forty pairs of shoes and were extremely pleased with the outcome of the event. Donators received free spring 2013 editions of ReCap, available upon request.
