Community service is a huge part of the lives of students here at Capital University.
Seeing as part of the university’s mission is to “prepare individuals to live holistic lives of leadership and service,” every year at the beginning of April, students all across campus can take part in the Crusader Day of Service.
This year, Saturday April 5, students will be participating in several different community service projects across Columbus.
In the morning from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., students can sign up to help at the Columbus Collegiate Academy, Ronald McDonald House, First English Lutheran Church, E.L. Hardy Center, LSS Food Pantry, Columbus Literacy Council, and the Dominican Learning Center.
In the afternoon from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., students have the opportunity to help at Habitat Humanity ReStore, LifeCare Alliance, Bexley Community Garden, and again at the Columbus Literacy Council and E.L. Hardy Center.
Crusader Day of Service is one of the biggest events on campus and everyone is extremely excited about it.
“I liked the opportunity to go out into the community and give back to help make a difference,” Brooke Baldwin, sophomore and member of Phi Sigma Sigma, said.
Baldwin’s experience last year has made her even more excited and anxious for this year.
“I love that Capital provides a whole day of service that the whole campus can get involved in that not only helps the community, but also strengthens our CapFam,” Baldwin said.
Although both the Ronald McDonald House and LSS Food Pantry are full, there are still plenty of places in need of service.
As the big day approaches, it is important to secure your spot for one of the many different service activities. For those interested in participating in the Crusader Day of Service, sign-up sheets can be found on the windows of the SEC.
