For the first time ever, formal recruitment for Fraternity and Sorority Life will be held during the fall semester. In previous years, recruitment has always been held in the spring.
“The intent in moving to the fall semester is to show our new students that Fraternity (and Sorority) Life provide many great opportunities to be engaged on our campus and the community, as well as a chance to find a niche here at Capital,” Justin See, President of Capital’s Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC), said.
“The guidelines are definitely going to give way to some very exciting times at Capital in the next few weeks.”
The purpose of recruitment is for students to decide what fraternity or sorority best suits them.
Recruitment allows fraternities and sororities to meet the new students and potentially offer some students bids, or an innovation of membership, into a specific fraternity or sorority.
“The guidelines have changed so our organizations can better help students find a niche or place of home at Capital University. College is a major transition in a young adult’s life – fraternity and sorority membership can and will help students develop to live their values,” David Gonzalez, Assistant Director of Student and Community Engagement, said. “This [fall recruitment] allows PNMs, or potential new members, to join a fraternity earlier and have the opportunity to gain friendships while bettering themselves as individuals,”
Stephen Rossi, IFC Recruitment Director, and members of IFC are the ones who are in charge of the guidelines and decided that fall recruitment will be what is best for Capital University.
Moving the recruitment up to the fall allows the fraternities and sororities to start showing off the benefits of joining an organization even earlier.
“There are countless benefits to joining a Greek organization and this is an amazing opportunity to start showing those off right away,” See said.
The recruitment itself will be similar to years past, just at an earlier date. Overall, Capital University wants new students to get involved early, and moving the recruitment date up is doing just that.
Currently, Fraternity and Sorority Life is getting ready for Greek Week, Sept. 17-21.
