Bexley Farmers’ Market stays fresh: Vendors bring coffee, produce, and more

Currently in its ninth season, the Bexley Farmers’ Market is back at it again with a fresh supply of products. 

The Bexley Farmers’ Market runs from 4-7 p.m. every Thursday through October on Dawson Avenue and Main Street.

Tom Johnson of Two Roasting Joes has been in the coffee business for about 13 years and has been at the Bexley Farmers’ Market for six of those.

“My neighbor and I were talking about roasting coffee one day and we got some stuff on the internet, and I fell in love with it,” Johnson said. 

Based in Chillicothe, Johnson makes the commute to the city to participate in farmers’ markets. 

“I’ve developed a lot of fun relationships,” Johnson said of the Bexley Farmers’ Market. “I know a lot of people by their first names, I see them every week, I deliver coffee to them year-round, even when the market’s closed.”

“I love it here,” he said. “It’s beautiful here, the people are so nice.”

Two Roasting Joes offers free delivery in Chillicothe and Circleville and has an ever-growing list of retail locations selling their coffee.

In addition to getting that caffeine fix, the Bexley Farmers’ Market has the hookup on oh-so glorious carbs.

Sivan Zouela, an employee of Fromagerie, sells all different types of bread.

Fromagerie is a Columbus-based operation that specializes in cheese and bread and sells at various farmers’ markets around Columbus.

Zouela said that the Bexley location only sells bread, but that at other locations, cheese is available.

“Some of [the products] have imported cheese from France or around the U.S.,” Zouela said. “We also sell cheese puffs and all different kinds of bread-inspired things.”

The table had it all, from crunchy manchego-fig straws to olive sourdough bread to belgian chocolate babka. 

Fromagerie can also be found doing tastings at the 1400 Food Lab.

“It’s really nice to see the people that come back every week, and recognize you, and tell you about the bread and their experience with it,” Zouela said.

In addition to making appearances at farmers’ markets, Fromagerie hosts wine and cheese tastings at the 1400 Food Lab.

Keeping on with the starch, Hannah Plympton, an Ohio City Pasta employee, was manning a booth full of homemade pasta from Cleveland. 

Ohio City Pasta offers tons of pastas, all of which are homemade.

From pasta flavors like wild mushroom and lemon pepper to hand-made sauces like arrabbiata and puttanesca, Ohio City Pasta had it all.

Kathy Wegner, owner and operator of Made Without Grain, set up shop to sell her grain-free baking mixes that she not only developed herself, but also does all the mixing and packaging for.

“My mixes are grain-, gluten-, and dairy-free,” she said. “The bases are vegan, so I do have [those] options as well.”

One of the reasons Wegner sells her baking mixes is to promote healthier options for everyone. She has been selling at the Bexley Farmers’ Market since “at least 2013.”

”Interacting with customers, being able to educate people about my mixes and why they’re healthy, and being able to supply something for people who don’t like the traditional gluten-free stuff [is what I enjoy most],” Wegner said.
