AHS characters return in ‘Coven’

by Brianna Murphy

As the genre of horror has been burgeoning on television recently, programs such as “The Walking Dead” on AMC and “American Horror Story” on FX have been tremendously successful in their respective ratings.

Despite a slow moving plot that can leave an audience bored, “Dead” continues to draw viewers in. “Horror Story” sets itself apart in this genre in that it is an anthology – each new season is situated in a new environment with fresh characters.

Unlike “Dead,” “Horror Story” captures your attention and doesn’t let you go for twelve terrifying episodes. “Horror Story” is intellectually appealing. The mysterious plot unveils itself slowly to coil into an intricate story that essentially blows your mind.

While an emotional attachment or following to a character in this show is not feasible, it is awesome to see who the actors will become.

The writers on “Horror Story” have provided legendary actress Jessica Lange with amazing material over three seasons and she has immersed herself in each character flawlessly.

We have seen her as a cunning neighbor with a creepy connection to the afterlife, a disgruntled nun, and now a supreme witch in “American Horror Story: Coven.”

When it comes to deciding which show is worth the while, I personally tend to go for the show that captures my attention and makes me afraid of anything covered in rubber. (I’m still really not over the Rubber Man from season one).

“American Horror Story” does just that. It’s like a scary movie that won’t end – captivating, terrifying, and continuing to taunt you after the screen goes dark.
