This past week, the university’s book club teamed up with several other campus organizations to host Franken-Org, a Halloween themed event featuring games, a movie, a spooky mocktail bar and more.

The Franken-Org event took place Oct. 23 from 8-11 p.m. in the Harry C. Moores Student Union lobby, with the movie playing in Schneider South.
The event’s hosts consisted of Capital Book Club, Capital Art Club, the Campus Activities Board (CAB), Capital Autism Society and Letters of Love.
“We wanted every org to bring a different interactive element,” said sophomore student Rylee Jarosz, the treasurer of the book club. “Autism society has a wheel for people to spin and to get different prizes, CAB has a bunch of crafts, Art Club’s doing coloring pages. We have Letters of Love here, card making, and then we’re doing drink making and book giveaways.”
The idea for the event began with book club executive board members two years ago but was brought back this year with a considerable amount of interest and enthusiasm.
“I’m just excited for the engagement,” said sophomore student and book club secretary Abby Reed before the event. “I love talking to random people that approach me, so I think it’ll be a great time.”
Event attendees also had the opportunity to enjoy caramel apples, win prizes, grab some free candy and talk to all the participating organizations.
With a great turnout, many students had wonderful comments about Franken-Org.

“I love Franken-Org; the crafts, the involvement, the music, the drinks … ,” said sophomore Abbey Palmer, an attendee at the event.
“I also love the drinks and the free items,” said sophomore Clara Wilson.
Student events and engagement are a staple at the university and something many orgs like to participate in.
“[The university] has been doing a lot of things like this, so I guess this just kind of goes with the territory. I like it,” said senior attendee Isaiah Grice.
Collaborative events can make campus feel more like a connected community, and any organization can start a new tradition.
Student organization events provide a fun opportunity to get involved on campus, meet new people and get free items. With student events almost daily, the Office of Student and Community Engagement is dedicated to getting students involved on campus and helping them find their niche.
