Women’s teams out-stomach competition in AMP ‘Fear Factor’

by Barbara Keegan

Monday night, Activity Management and Programming (AMP) hosted what they hoped would be a daring, exciting and disgusting event for Capital students.

“I wanted to do something that hadn’t happened at Capital before and is original,” Alexandra Bradley, creator of the event.

The product of an event planning class, Fear Factor, consisted of five rounds testing competitors’ willpower. Six teams of four came to the MDR to participate in the strange new event.

In the first round, contestants stood in a line to pass egg yolks from the first to last person, then into a cup.

When all of the eggs were in the cup, the team members took turns scooping a dog biscuit into their mouth before crawling around the salad bar and placing it into a cup on the other

side. Once all four people had finished, one team member sat down on a chair and had whipped cream smeared across his or her face as another teammate tossed gummy worms onto their face.

The last team to finish these competitions was eliminated.

For the second round, every member of the five remaining teams had to eat a bowl of an unknown substance.

It was later revealed that one bowl contained spam, mayo, and oyster sauce while the other held pasta mixed with baby food. The last two teams to finish their food were eliminated.

The final round was the most challenging. Two members from each of the last three teams remaining downed a shot of lemon juice, then all four members has to dig through a jar of authentic dirt and worms to pull out a token. Once all members had a token, the two that did not take the lemon shot got to participate in the next section. A giant, slop-filled tub in the middle of the room held clothespins.

One contestant had to reach through the slop and find ten clothespins and pin them onto his or her teammate.

The winner of the first ever Fear Factor competition was a team of girls known as Team “No Fear,” who received gift cards as their prize.

In second place came another group of girls, representing the women’s soccer team.
