The buzz this week is all about Alpha Sigma Phi’s Livestrong activities. The Livestrong initiative spotlights cancer awareness through fundraising, insightful talks with authorities on the subject, and musical performances. Alpha Sigma Phi’s philanthropist, Richard Delozier, gives a sneak peak of what to expect in the week’s festivities.
“On Wednesday night we are teaming up with Cosi Restaurant, across from campus, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m,” Delozier said. “Twenty percent of everything purchased during those hours will be going to support current and recovering cancer patients and their families. On Friday night we are throwing our Livestrong concert.”
Other activities include Monday night’s Livestrong competition, the Livestrong chat with Dr. Patterson Tuesday, and the highly anticipated “buzz an Alpha Sig” day. Delozier was more than pleased with the attention the activity was getting and explained how it was going to differ from previous Livestrong weeks.
“In years past we set it up where the more money we raised, the more of our brothers would have to shave their heads,” Delozier said. “This year it is more like an auction. Twenty three of our brothers, including myself, will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Whoever bids the most will get to buzz off our hair or make it look as crazy as they want.”
This year’s concert is one of the more anticipated events, mostly because of the bands and artists it will feature.
“The concert is going to be held in the Mezz and tickets are $5,” Delozier said. “All proceeds are going to Livestrong. Our performing artists are Returning April, a local band; Spencer Saylor, a Capital University student; and Ron e Polo, who has toured with MGK and is quickly gaining recognition in the music industry.”
If attending the event isn’t enough involvement for an on-looker, students can email Delozier at RDelozie@capital.edu to learn more about further participation.
Auctions, free food, and $10 Livestrong T-shirts are all just icing on the cake in what is sure to be a Livestrong week to remember.
“I am anticipating having the T-shirts in hand by Thursday, just in time for the Buzz-cuts,” Delozier said.
