When students sit at the fountains on any given afternoon, they observe quite a few bearded fellows scurrying about campus. Senior marketing major Kelly Freimark happens to be one of these men sporting facial hair.
Freimark’s beard, upon first glance, is well kept and a surprising burgundy-red color. While many people may think a lot of styling goes into keeping his beard well maintained, Freimark said that he has never used any styling product in his hair before.
“I just let it grow,” Freimark said.
Friemark has been growing his beard since about the seventh grade because he thinks he would look baby-faced without it.
“I think I look a lot better with it, and I think it makes me look a little bit more distinguished.”
For many men, participating in ‘No Shave November’ is a time to let loose and let their facial hair grow wild. For Freimark, it’s just another month that happens to raise awareness of prostate cancer.
While many men will strip themselves of their beards once December hits, it’s been a long time since anyone has seen Freimark without a beard.
“I always have a beard, and I trim it every couple of weeks … about a year ago for Halloween I had to have a clean shaven face,” Freimark said. He was Donnie Azoff from “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
Freimark enjoys discussing his beard as it has been a big part of his family for a long time now.
“A lot of people can’t grow a beard,” Freimark said. “My dad has a beard. One of my grandpas did; everyone has pretty much had facial hair in my family.”
