Gingerbread Snap’d: Mountain Dew’s new seasonal flavor

Mountain Dew Gingerbread Snap’d was released to stores in the U.S. at the beginning of November to replace Mountain Dew Merry Mash-Up, which was the previous holiday seasonal flavor.

The prototypes of this flavor were originally colored brown, but the released color is white, similar to Mountain Dew White Out or Mountain Dew Voo Dew.

Holiday flavors have been running since 2017 when Mountain Dew Holiday Brew was released. They usually run for a few years then are discontinued and replaced with a new flavor.

However, I am not sure if that is going to be the case here. I suspect that Gingerbread Snap’d is only going to be running for this season because of all the flavors that were released this year.

This year alone we had Thrashed Apple, Baja Flash, Baja Punch, Cake Smash, Flamin Hot, Uproar and Major Mellon. It seems like the behavior of a company that wants to test the waters with different flavors and to see what sticks and what doesn’t.

Mountain Dew Gingerbread Snap’d is available in bottles and cans at many grocery stores and gas stations.

It is currently available at the Kroger closest to Capital; but, in a typical Mountain Dew Reviewer fashion, I wanted to buy it at 3 AM and so I had to search for a gas station that was both open 24 hours and had the new flavor in stock.

After the challenge of acquiring it, I can confirm that it tastes exactly as advertised. The flavor chemists at PepsiCo knew exactly what they were doing. If someone wants a gingerbread-flavored soda, this is the best option.

The issue here is that it does not taste like a Mountain Dew flavor. With other flavors, there is at least a hint of the original flavor as a base. That is not the case here, as it tastes strictly of carbonated gingerbread.

Additionally, the flavor slightly irritated my stomach. Not as much as Flamin Hot, but enough to be noticeable.

I’m also disappointed with the white color of the drink, as I don’t really think it makes sense for this flavor to be anything other than gingerbread brown.

One good thing about this version of Mountain Dew is the art on the packaging. It showcases some mischievous-looking gingerbread men throwing snowballs, and it looks even cooler on the box for the box of cans.

Overall, I can’t really recommend this unless you feel the sudden and specific urge to enjoy a gingerbread-flavored soda. If the only thing going for this addition is the art on the can, then it is difficult to make the argument to recommend buying it more than once.
