For Capital students, traveling to Hollywood isn’t the only way to see stars. Senior Kaitlin Busch was recently chosen to be the newest CW Star right here in Columbus.
“Each year, The CW Columbus (WWHO-TV) begins a quest to find the face of our local television station. This ‘face’ is known as The CW Star and works with the station for one year to gain unparalleled experience both in front of and behind the camera, event marketing, social media-marketing, internet, radio, cable and much more.
The CW Star reaches out to our station’s young demographic and hits the hot spots to help promote our station and The CW brand,” according to the CW website.
Busch was surprised whe won the competition.
“After every event and interview, I would call my mom and say how much I had messed up,” Bushc said.
The process was a long one, starting in September. Auditions were held at the Ohio State University and Polaris, and the CW chose nine finalists from those auditions. Twenty-five other people were also chosen to compete for the tenth and last finalist spot. Busch made the final nine, and did not have to go through the arduous process of fighting for a finalist spot.
“I went in for maybe five or more interviews and screen tests, more and more screen tests and interviews, and I had to do events like Friday night football games and highball Halloween. When I went in for my last interview, it was a surprise party. They even invited my mom and dad and brother from Cincinnati. It was great,” Bush said.
Another component to picking the star was voting, which included watching a video for each candidate on the CW website.
“I got a lot of support. I’m very grateful for everyone who voted for me and put it on their Facebook page so I didn’t have to,” Busch said while laughing, “It’s so public, that if you don’t get it, it could be really awkward, like hey, thanks for all the support, sorry for annoying you for so long, I didn’t get it.”
The tenure at CW will last a full year for Busch, officially starting in January. She is in training and transition right now so she can be fully acclimated by the time January comes around.
As for her future plans, Busch “would like to stay in entertainment. I really don’t like news, so if it’s at all possible, I want to stay in entertainment, even if it’s something like running a website,” she said.
