Track team sets new records

Records are meant to be broken, and Capital’s track and field team proved that during the Ohio Athletic Conference Finals the weekend before mid-semester break.

Junior Emma McCarron was part of two record-setting events. She placed second and set a program record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:28.11. McCarron also participated in the distance medley relay team of senior Sarah Trick, junior Aimee Hall, and sophomore Jessi Knoll, which set a school-record mark of 12:26.67, also a second place finish.

Senior Karen Steiger broke her own record in the 60-meter hurdles, running a 9.88 in the preliminaries.

The men also had impressive performances. Junior Josh Woods tied his own school record in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 22.58, the best mark of the preliminary round.

On the second day of events, Senior Alex Moore posted a school-record time of 16:06.99 in the 5,000-meter run. On the women’s side, McCarron was at it again, breaking the program record in the 1000-meter run later in the day with a time of 3:04.64.

Senior Sarah Trick was very proud of her teammate’s accomplishments this season.

“The track team is doing some pretty amazing things this year. The girls’ team came in 2nd at All-Ohio and did some pretty awesome things at the conference meet. Everyone has been working extremely hard to get better every week and think we keep up this momentum the sky is the limit!” Trick said.
