Capital appoints new dean of management, searches for director of library and information sources

John E. Gentner Jr. has been appointed as dean of the school of management and leadership, effective immediately.

Gentner has served as director and executive professor of the university’s MBA program since January 2016. He came to Capital with years of experience, serving at both the University of Dayton and Fifth Third Bank/Fifth Third Securities, Inc. Gentner contributed significantly to the vision of the Convergent Media Center, as well as curriculum and program design in his department.

“We look forward to his continued collaboration with others within the university community as well as reaching outside of Capital to develop new and innovative educational opportunities for our students,” interim provost Dr. Terry Lahm said.

Lahm said Gentner’s appointment will also “… [create] different internships for business students and different ways to get involved with the business community, including for-profit and non-profit business.”

Similarly, Gentner will provide academic leadership and oversight for undergraduate and graduate students in the school of management and leadership in his new role as dean.

According to Lahm, He will also “develop relationships with alumni and partner with Advancement to support fundraising initiatives, and lead the development of new undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs in the school of management and leadership.”

The search committee that assisted in finalizing this decision included Don Howard, Elene Kent, Keirsten Moore, Jennifer Patterson, Sergey Rybas and Rick Wood. Kent had been serving as interim dean of business during this time of transition.
