To the Cap Family:
I would like to take this time to not only welcome the first year students again but also welcome back all students, staff and administration. I am very excited about the year to come and getting things going with Student Government. I wanted to update everyone on things that took place over the summer and notify you of some upcoming projects.
This summer was a productive time for SG as we wanted to take advantage of having a full Senate for the 2012-2013 year. Executive Vice President Mitch Stith, Communications Vice President Travis Dilley, and I had the opportunity to go to the NACA Student Government Conference at Villanova University. There we got to meet Student Government members from other schools and learn about things that they are doing on their campus that opened our eyes to potential opportunities here at Capital. We will be working with Student Government to figure out ways to implement these ideas over the upcoming year or years.
I am also honored to be a part of the Foundations of Excellence program coming to Capital that will be largely beneficial to our university. Be on the lookout for more information on this program that will be surveying and examining Capital to find what can be done to make everyone’s experience at Capital the best that it can be. I was also able to be a part of a lot of the First Year events and you can even find me featured in the already epic “Call Me Maybe” video that I believe is a great way to kickoff the year!
Progress was made on some of our initiatives this summer that you will be able to enjoy this year as well. The Cru Club now has extended hours on the weekends thanks to efforts from out Student Life Committee so be sure to stop by. Vice President Stith has been hard at work to ensure the newspaper program has another successful year and we are excited to announce the addition of the Columbus Dispatch to the newspaper stands on campus. It was also exciting to see the completion of developments in various buildings on campus that the former leadership of Brent Bowers and Scott Rarick had a hand in. Needless to say, the members of Student Government are doing their best to bring students what they would like to see.
There are quite a few things that you can look forward to from Student Government in the upcoming future. Elections to fill the three available first year spots will be taking place the third week of the semester so if you are interested, please visit our website or Facebook for more details. We are getting the ball rolling on other initiatives that committees set forth last year like strengthening campus security, housing improvements, organization funding and communication, and developing our new Constitution to be the most effective that it can for our body. We have many more ideas that we will begin putting into the works. Updates on what we are working on will be put out on a regular basis in press releases so we are able to keep you informed. We encourage you to contribute any ideas you have or tell us of any concerns as we want to be the voice of the students and prove to be effective leaders. Feel free to talk to any of us in person, stop by our office, or visit our Facebook.
Sincerely,
Bobbi Wilson
Student Government President
