President Biden Makes Visit to Columbus

President Joe Biden was in Columbus, Ohio, to tour The James Cancer Hospital this past Tuesday

After touching down at John Glenn International Airport, the president was greeted by a handful of local politicians which included both Democrats and Republicans.

Gov. Mike DeWine met with Biden to discuss the vaccine rollout and other issues. Biden later made a social media post recognizing that tackling this pandemic is a bipartisan issue. He made his point by highlighting his meeting with Gov. DeWine.

Biden was also greeted by Dayton Mayor, Nan Whaley, who is expected to run for Governor herself in 2022. Also with the President was Representative Joyce Beatty who represents the Columbus area and Congressman Tim Ryan who is rumored to run for Ohio’s open Senate seat in 2022. Biden also reportedly met with, among other people, Jeni Britton, the founder of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams.

Outside of The James waiting to see the President were both supporters of Biden and a handful of supporters of former President Trump. The Trump supporters waved “Trump 2024” flags and anti-Biden flags. At one point, one member of this group approached where local media was standing and yelled through his microphone “no more fake news” a common saying used by the former President.

The Trump supporters did not stand where Biden’s motorcade passed through, but they did stand near The James for hours until the President left. Closer to where the motorcade passed was a larger group of people who waited outside to get a glimpse of the 46th President.

Biden toured The James on the 11th anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act (AKA Obamacare). The stop was part of the White House’s “Help is Here” tour. Biden touted the accomplishments of the ACA. He brought attention to the millions of Americans who now have access to reliable and affordable health insurance due to the sweeping health care bill.
The ACA also helped increase funds to The James in particular. This is why the President chose the hospital as one of his stops. Biden also spoke about the recently passed COVID relief bill. The President talked about the financial and health related issues that were addressed in the relief package. After his address, Biden returned to John Glenn International and returned to D.C.
