Fraternity and even a few sorority members will be shaving their heads tonight on Schaaf Lawn.
an intensive marketing plan to make sure that everyone on campus and throughout the Bexley community had heard of the week’s events.
The members of Alpha Sigma Phi want to show their dedication to their philanthropy through the execution of the third annual LiveStrong Week.
On Monday evening Dr. Daniel Skinner gave a lecture on “Living Strong in Vulnerable Bodies.” Skinner brought a unique perspective as he is a cancer survivor who is also involved in politics.
Capital’s Epsilon Chi chapter will continue its signature “Cuts for Cancer” event this evening as part of the week’s fundraising events.
In a press release sent out to the Bexley area media outlets, the fraternity encouraged the Bexley community to participate through a fundraiser dinner Tuesday at Cosi.
“This week is not just about raising funds, but also about giving back,” Jon Lucas, philanthropy director of the fraternity, said. “One development for this year is the inclusion of less purely social events and a refocus on making a difference.”
Because Tuesday, Oct. 2 was National LiveStrong Day, members decided to include a new community engagement aspect to this year’s activities to establish augmented awareness about the foundation’s efforts.
From Oct. 1 to 6, the organization hosted various events focused on raising funds for the LiveStrong Foundation as well as bringing awareness to the cancer experience.
The idea is particularly timely after Bexley Mayor Ben Kessler’s comments about his desire to see a better connection between Capital’s campus and the Bexley community published in last week’s edition of the Chimes.

encouraged to participate in community service at the Ronald McDonald House.
Tonight will be the main event centered toward Capital students with a cookout, silent auction, and the group’s infamous “Cuts for Cancer,” where one member of the group will shave his head for every $50 raised for the LiveStrong Foundation.
“Our guys really look forward to this event each and every year,” Richie Myers, president of the Epsilon Chi chapter said. “It has been a staple during Alpha Sigma Phi’s LiveStrong week.”
Students are encouraged to participate in the silent auction, which features items donated from local businesses including gift cards to Barnes and Noble, tickets to shows at the Drexel, and even a massage package.
All proceeds from the auction will go to the fundraising efforts. Funds are also raised through the sales of t-shirts and wristbands in the P.O. Lobby throughout the week. The group will be out for CapFest on Saturday to sell any additional shirts and bands.
