The unofficial menu of MDR

When grabbing a quick bite between classes or meeting up with friends, the Main Dining Room (MDR) is the go-to spot. It offers a range of menu options, including Sauce & Stone, known for its delicious Italian dishes, and the Classic Kitchen, serving up comforting favorites.

University students have crafted a secret menu of their own to enjoy outside of the day’s main entrees. Here are some favorite student-made meals to try.

The Main Dining Hall offers several options for breakfast. A popular choice that students gravitate toward is the waffle station, where they can choose from a variety of toppings to elevate their waffle.

Sophomore student Megan Larkin’s breakfast recommendation is to grab a bowl of plain yogurt, add some blueberries and granola, and voilà, a delicious personalized yogurt parfait has been created. Students can customize this recipe by adding their favorite fruits as well.

When lunchtime rolls around, make sure to hit up the pasta bar.

Junior Emily Bartholomew said, “My go-to is going to the pasta bar, getting some pasta with Alfredo sauce and then going to the allergen kitchen and topping it with chicken and broccoli.”

Another suggestion made by sophomore Hannah Laubacker is to create a chicken parm by using the pasta and marinara sauce from Sauce & Stone and adding the breaded chicken from the Flame station.

MDR offers a wide selection of desserts daily, but if none stand out, first-year student Evie Swick suggests topping MDR’s classic brownies with ice cream.

Students can grab some of their favorite ice cream, then head over to the waffle station to create their own ice cream sundae. Another option, suggested by sophomore Paul Kramer, is to scoop some vanilla ice cream into a cup and fill it with root beer to make a root beer float.  The MDR even offers a dairy-free ice cream option.

If in the mood to mix it up with drinks, Renee Tennant has a DIY mocktail recipe: start by filling a cup with ice, add Starry soda until halfway full and then head to the Classic Kitchen for the breakfast juice selection. Add a bit of citrus juice and cranberry juice to complete this refreshing drink.

The MDR is located in the Student Union and is open 7:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The daily menu is available on the university’s campus dining website.
