From 8-9 a.m. there will be a community gathering in the Schneider Lounge in the Harry C. Moores Campus Center to kick-start the day. Reverend Jamal Harrison Bryant, founder of Empowerment Temple, an active program which empowers the world, will begin the keynote speech at 9 a.m. in Mees Hall.
A long list of campuswide workshops will last from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., educating attendees on important and interesting topics that are relevant to Dr. King’s work in the 21st century. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., The Hank Marr Jazz Luncheon will feature talented musicians and will provide lunch for the prices of $13.25 (adults) and $8 (children 8 and under).
Ongoing afternoon events will last until 5 p.m., including Inauguration Discussion Panel with Community Leaders, Kids Korner, Act on Racism, Works from the Schumacher Gallery, Canned Food Drive Service Project, Blackmore Library Exhibit and Admission Office visits and tours.
The goal of “DREAM. LIVE. CHANGE.” is to capture the university’s commitment to act, serve and engage to build Dr. King’s commitment to his dream. Participants are asked to bring at least one canned food item to be donated to local food banks. All events, except the luncheon, are free of charge.
