Boston Manor is a Blackpool, England-based band that sounds like the coolest mix of Royal Blood and dad rock you’ll hear for the rest of the year.
This early Warped Tour-esque band is releasing an album titled “Welcome to the Neighbourhood” on Sept. 7. Through Pure Noise Records, I had the opportunity to listen to beforehand, and it’s one of the most revolutionary yet nostalgic rock albums that I’ve heard in the past few years.
Henry Cox, Boston Manor’s lead singer, shot and directed a music video for “Bad Machine,” one of the songs off of the band’s new album. The video is shot in black and white and shows disturbing and cryptic images that enhance the edginess of the band and the song.
“We knew we wanted to capture some of the sleaziness of the track & condense the video down to a sequence of ‘moments’, almost like a movie trailer,” Cox said, speaking of the new music video.
When listening to the album, it was clear to me how much emotion was packed into those songs. Each song hit a different note of intensity and feeling, each more meaningful than the last. With striking lyrics, it hits the listener like a truck. The same goes for the “Bad Machine” video — my eyes were glued to the screen and for three minutes, it was all I could focus on. The images, the sounds, the movement of the style was all encompassing.
The album also addresses various modern issues that the band wants to call attention to. “I can’t really offer any immediate solutions, but I can try to throw a bucket of cold water on some of my peers, to just get them to feel more and think more and not be so apathetic,” Cox said.
