The amount of musical talent throughout campus is astounding. With all of the talented musicians constantly perfecting their craft, it is easy to overlook the people who are studying to make all these musicians sound as wonderful as they do.
The Audio Engineering Society brings together these audio engineers, scientists, creative artists, and students on campus to celebrate their hard work and interest in the field.
Still a fairly new organization, the AES has been a part of and hosted many great events on and off campus.
“Our organization helps students network with one another and with professional contacts,” Student Chair Joey Pasternak said. “A group of us went to the AES National Convention in San Francisco last November where I meet a few Grammy-Award winning engineers, like Ryan Hewitt and Jack Douglas. This would not have been possible without being a member of the Student Section.”
Throughout the year, the group has held several successful events on campus for all students.
“In the fall we hosted and showed The Dark Side of Oz (Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and The Wizard of Oz) in surround sound and on April 6, we hosted a Music Tech Student Workshop along side TI:ME and the Music Technology Department,” Pasternak said.
“We had prospective students from around the country attend. Luke Wooten, a Grammy-Award winning engineer/producer from Nashville, Tenessee presented at the workshop this year. We plan on having more movie events in the fall and hosting another workshop in the spring next year.”
Even though the school year is winding down, it’s never too late to check out the AES. If you’re interested in learning more about the organization, visit www.aes.org and click on the Capital University section, or Contact Joey Pasternak for more information jpastern@capital.edu.
