“The Awesome 80s Prom” kicks off an unprecedented, interactive show at the Cabaret Theatre this weekend. Directed by Dr. Daniel Heaton, “Prom” hilariously exploits high school stereotypes in the form of boisterous, interactive characters who spend the night dancing and forging relationships with the audience itself.
The winner of the 2006 Improvisational Theater Award for Best Interactive Show, “Prom” is an off-Broadway comedy that has scripted lines only for cast members who step up to the stage’s microphone.
Expect the majority of the show to be spent chatting to cast members, dancing to the best of the ‘80s, and watching characters made up of more hair than clothing. Glittering dresses, an open dance floor, and a Swedish foreign exchange student who can lift both legs over her head– there’s no room for boring as you, the audience member, get to reinvent your senior prom night, doused with hair band-era music and sass. Don’t forget that it’s up to you to choose the king and queen of prom, announced at the end of the show.
Welcome to the prom, and don’t forget to vote. Have a great night.
