Student Government increases presence on campus

Student Government announced a series of “integral changes” last week to make them more relevant on campus, according to a statement released today.

In case you didn’t know, the university does has a student government. Most students don’t know exactly what Student Government does, but that will end today, as they announce plans to launch a new network in affiliation with CapTV.

This network, called “CapSpan,” will host weekly news updates, live look-ins on regular meetings, and will also house political ads during the Student Government election season.

“We are extremely excited to have someone interview us,” John Spitzer, Student Government president, said. “This new network allows us to share with the student body all of the exciting things going on within our walls and give us way more clout.”

Spitzer also said that he’s really excited for people to recognize Student Government’s efforts after all this time.

“We’ve been struggling to get people to acknowledge our hard work,” he said. “It’s really good to see something finally happening, ya know?”

As a celebration of the new network’s launch, Student Government will be hosting its first annual CapSpan Music Bash, a music festival that will be streamed live exclusively on CapSpan.

“We are really excited to bring top-tier talent to Capital University,” Sadie Dohve, junior emerging media major and coordinator of the event, said.

The Music Bash will feature Mason Ramsey, AKA “Walmart Yodeling Boy,” Big Time Rush, and Lil Pump. In order to afford these acts, Student Government has proposed and passed extensive budget cuts to student organizations. For specific information concerning budget cuts and the student organization crisis of 2019, watch CapSpan Thursday at 8 p.m.

CapSpan Music Bash will be a campus-sponsored event, so no drugs or alcohol will be permitted. Student Government states that they have secured Capri-Sun juices and fruit snacks (courtesy of Aladdin) to be provided at the event.

“I didn’t know that we had a Student Government,” Daisy Yaw, first-year, said. “But they were able to get Lil Pump, so I am totally down for hearing the student body all sing ‘ESSKEETIT’ together.”

“I love Big Time Rush,” Nancy Thad, junior, said. “They are my all-time faves, do you want to see my tattoo of their faces? Kendall is so dreamy. Wait, what was the question again?”

The Music Bash will start at 8 p.m. April 12 in Mees Hall, $5 at the door or free with a student ID.
