The legend continues. “Anchorman 2” is set for release Dec. 20. Ron Burgundy, San Diego’s best anchorman, is back behind the news desk with his wife, Veronica Corningstone.
Joining him at the nation’s first ever 24-hour news network are his cohorts weatherman, Brick Tamland; field reporter, Brian Fantana; and sports man, Champ Kind.
With an original movie that created a phenomenon back in 2004, “Anchorman 2” is a highly anticipated sequel.
Last month, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd spent an afternoon entertaining college students from across the country in a press conference about the new movie.
As hilarious and entertaining as one would expect them to be, Carell, who plays the dim-witted Brick, and Rudd, the suave Brian, provided insight of what to expect with the film.
Carell and Rudd have both created individual careers in film since the release of the first movie in 2004.
“For me, mainly, it was like working with these guys again who I love,” Rudd said. “And, you know, it was such a blast doing the first one that I want – I would jump at the chance to come back and beat a dead horse.”
“I think we all felt exactly that same way,” Carell said. “We all just wanted to do it for the sake of doing it, and I think we all would have done it in a vacuum.
Even if there was no film and any camera, we would have come back and done it, because it’s so much fun.”
The duo is revisiting roles that they originated nearly a decade ago. Rudd described what it was like to be Brian again.
“At times, it didn’t seem difficult at all, like I feel we know these characters pretty well,” Rudd said.
“But I would say throughout the shoot, there were many moments where I thought, oh god, am I doing this right? I felt a little off track.” Carell hilariously described how it was not hard for him to revisit Brick.
“I am as a human being no smarter than I was 10 years ago, so that I haven’t improved as a human being,” Carell said. “I haven’t evolved in any way, so that really helped me with Brick.”
Rudd and Carell are leading men and provided some comic and wise advice for any college guys looking to “pick up girls.”
Rudd’s first piece of advice to guys is to “drop the cologne. No one likes it. Use your, you know, your own natural musk which will bring the ladies in in busloads.”
Carell added in the important tip that “I would say you have to listen. You have to open your heart and open your ear and you have to listen and appreciate the person that you’re with.”
With Will Ferrell having just made an appearance on a North Dakota news broadcast as Ron Burgundy, expectations for the movie are high.
The trailers for “Anchorman 2” are packed with all sorts of crazy. The actors hint that you have to wait to see what’s to come- the movie is so much better than the trailers tease.
“But there’s so much more than is in the trailer, and funnier, so I’m kind of psyched about the whole thing,” Carell said. “Anchorman 2” is sure to provide hysterical antics when it hits theaters Dec. 20. Remember – stay classy, Cap.
