“An Information Network”

Twitter is a real-time information network that connects you to the latest information about what you find interesting. Simply find the public streams you find most

compelling and follow the conversations.

At the heart of Twitter are small bursts of information called Tweets. Each Tweet is 140 characters in length, but don’t let the small size fool you—you can share a lot with a little space. Connected to each Tweet is a rich details pane that provides additional information, deeper context and embedded media. You can tell your story within your Tweet, or you can think of a Tweet as the headline, and use the details pane to tell the rest with photos, videos and other media content.

You don’t have to build a web page to surf the web and you don’t have to tweet to enjoy Twitter. Whether you tweet 100 times a day or never, you still have access to the voices and information surrounding what interests you. You can contribute, or just listen in and retrieve up to the second information.

Experience Twitter on your mobile device by using one of our free Twitter apps for iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, Windows7 and Android. Individuals, businesses and social causes can use Twitter for SMS and our Fast Follow program to connect directly to anyone with a mobile phone. Twitter for SMS is an instant infrastructure for mobile communications.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Twitter

-DO follow stars that you like and would want to be friends with in real life. Follow news sources that update information quickly. Follow companies that you support and want to watch grow.

-DON’T #hashtageverything. Hash tags are meant to trend topics that popular, or used on words that other people may be Tweeting. Use them sparingly and you will succeed.

-DO take your chances! Tweet what’s on your mind, or say something crazy to a celebrity. But…. Let’s not get too crazy.

-DON’T retweet every single Tweet that you read. Sure, there are going to be a handful of Tweets from various people that are funny every day. Retweet those. Please. For the love
of everything that is holy, if I wanted to hear everything that Miley Cyrus says, I’d follow her.

-DON’T overshare information. We don’t want to know what you’re doing every minute of every day. That being said, we also don’t need to know every time you arrive or leave a place.

-DO link me to cool stuff! Your follows want to be linked to where they can save, learn and laugh.

-DO be funny—if you are able to. Humor is hard, and even harder in 140 characters. If you can do it, make us laugh, but if you can’t #shutup.

-DON’T whine and whine and whine about every little thing that happens. That stuff is better left
to your personal journals and diaries. Frankly, most of your followers don’t really care. Save that drama for… well, your mama.
