On Saturday, November 14, Capital’s football team ended their 2015 season with an overtime victory against conference rival Marietta.

Coming into the game with a 2-7 record, the Crusaders looked to send their seniors off with one last win.

The Marietta Pioneers entered the match with an identical record of 2-7.

For both teams, rushing was the main point of attack. Senior running back, Brent Walton, lead the Crusaders’ rushing attack with 123 yards on 21 attempts. Lucas Haven aided Marietta with 18 attempts and 105 yards. Out of the eight scores in the game, five were rushing touchdowns.

The first score came from Pioneer running back Lucas Haven with a 1-yard run, set up by a 91-yard drive in the second quarter. Capital answered with a 27-yard pass to Wally Brewer from Nick Iske. Heading into the half, Marietta took a 14-7 lead as the Crusaders struggled on defense to stop the Pioneers’s run game.

The second half of the game proved to be a true test of Capital’s offensive prowess. The Crusaders opened the third quarter with an 80-yard drive, mainly facilitated by Walton and Iske. The drive resulted in a touchdown and an even 14-14 score.

The remainder of the third and fourth quarter saw both teams exchange scores and end regulation with a tie at 21 points each.

As over-time began, Marietta won the toss and elected to defend first. The Crusaders seized this opportunity and put together a powerful drive highlighted by a 9-yard run from Iske that set up a rushing touchdown from senior slotback, Jake Breakey.

This touchdown left the Pioneers’s with one chance to score. Havens rushed for 9 yards on the final drive, but was unable to score due to a last minute stop from Crusaders Aaron Viscounte and Derek Eibon.
