Whether it be a place to grab a bite to eat, focus on fitness resolutions, or enjoy a movie, Bexley is currently packed full of businesses to fit all needs. According to Mayor Kessler, there is currently no available retail space in Bexley. Some new businesses have recently opened their doors. A few are in the process of being constructed. Due to the unseasonably nice weather, the Market District Express on Main Street is expected to be finished by fall. The two-story business will include a Starbucks, an eat-in food service, a bar, and a two-story balcony.
“It will have many amenities that students will love,” Kessler said.
The Gramercy is being constructed in the spot where Cup O’ Joe once stood. This building will offer a new living spot as well as a bookstore and coffee shop. The coffee shop will include bakery from Kittie’s Cakes, a business located in German Village. A completion date has not been set yet.
A vacant place next to Chipotle on Main Street will soon be transformed into a Jersey Mike’s Subs, adding to the multiple sandwich options such as Penn Station and Jimmy John’s.
“Now Capital students will have the ultimate selection of subs to choose from,” said Kessler.
The space that once belonged to the Hammond Harkins Gallery across from campus will now be split in half to provide space for two businesses. Giuseppe’s Ritrovo will take over part of the location in order to expand and create a party room area. The other half of the space will be filled with a new interior design business coming to the area.
Following their recent addition of new bathrooms, Drexel will soon begin working on many other updates. The theaters and lobby will be getting a facelift as will the outside marque.
According to Kessler, there are plenty of places to get fit during 2016, including two brand new yoga studios. Bexley Yoga on Drexel is said to stick to traditional yoga. Blue Spot Yoga, which took over the space that was once Urban Moves, offers different types of sessions such as hot yoga.
“There has clearly been a pent up need for yoga in Bexley,” said Kessler. “Fitness places tend to do very well here.”
The strip known as Bexley Square is also now completely leased out. The new developments include a soon-to-come VIP Nails salon.
