Due to the mild winter weather, construction on the Convergent Media Center (CMC) on the northwest corner of campus is moving ahead of schedule.
The CMC is being constructed on the former grounds of Loy Gymnasium, which was razed during the summer of 2015. It will be home for numerous academic and extra-curricular programs.
Academic programs that will use the building include music technology, communication, professional writing, creative writing, journalism, marketing, studio art, and art therapy.
Extra-curricular programs moving into the CMC include CapTV, WXCU Radio, and the Chimes.
The ultimate objective of the CMC is to bring together programs that typically could not collaborate easily based on their current locations.
The building is set to open in time for the start of the 2016-17 academic year. Classes are expected to begin taking place within the building in the 2017 spring semester.
