BREAKING: College avenue and Trinity Suites close, building access changes

College Avenue Residence Hall and Trinitiy Suites have closed and there have been changes to building access in accordance with the state-issued “stay-at-home” order.

On Sunday afternoon, the Ohio Health Department issued a “stay-at-home” order for all Ohio residents.

According to the official order document, people should only leave their place of residence for “Essential Activities, Essential Governmental functions, or to participate in Essential Businesses and Operations.” The document goes into further details, and a link to it can be found here.

At 12:22 p.m. today, an email from Denise Russell gave details on how this order is directly affecting Capital.

One action that the university has decided to take, is to close the College Avenue Residence Hall and the Trinity Suites.

The email states, “We realize that many students rely on University housing as their primary residence. We are committed to providing housing consistency for these students. Students who are unable to vacate campus, will be reassigned housing into an apartment or home in the neighborhood.”

Students who still remain on campus are asked to submit a “I Need to Stay” form immediately.

Dining services have gone through changes as well. One Main Café is strictly carry-out, and the Main Dining Room and Capital Grounds are completely closed for the rest of the semester.

There have also been changes to building access.

Starting at 6 p.m. today, students will no longer be able to use their keycards to access academic and office buildings. Students who are performing important research or other projects can ask their teachers to assist them in getting card access once again if necessary.

From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on every single day of the week, faculty and staff will still have access to the campus buildings.

From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., The Student Union is still open for students, faculty, and staff.

Cap Cupboard, located in the basement of the Student Union, is still open, but students will need to send an email to capcupboard@capital.edu in order to make an appointment.

Mail Services are open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
