Before the Future Begins, There’s Grad Week

As the semester ends, graduating seniors are making plans for their lives after college. However, there is one important part left in the Capital experience: Grad Week; full of memorable events to share with your friends, it is the perfect wrap-up to the stress of final exams.

Grad week packs in fun activities for seniors before their farewell.

Cap Decorating (Tuesday, April 30, 5-7 p.m.)

Craft supplies and pizza will be provided in the CMC lobby and room 121, and no artistic talent is required! Cap decorating is a graduation tradition and a great way to express yourself at the commencement ceremony. If you want to get a head start on brainstorming, Pinterest is full of creative ideas, including tons of inspirational quotes and designs specific to majors. This event doubles as a pick-up location for commencement tickets, and if you plan to come, make sure you remember your graduation cap!

Scavenger Hunt (Wednesday, May 1, 2 p.m.)

Beginning in the Student Union lobby, this campus-wide scavenger hunt will take you back through some of your most (and least) loved places on campus, and it even offers you the chance to explore a few areas that are not typically open to students. Grab your friend group, and be ready to search, because the prize is pretty sweet: all groups that complete the scavenger hunt will be entered into a raffle to win a engraved brick to be placed by the fountains. Who doesn’t want their winning scavenger hunt team to be immortalized for decades to come?

Grad Fest (Wednesday, May 1, 5-7 p.m.)

This block party on Schaaf lawn is an annual Grad Week event, and since it includes free alcohol (with a valid I.D.), you definitely do not want to miss it! There will a be a photobooth, a palm reader to help you determine your future plans, lots of games, and of course, food. The rain location is inside the Student Union, and this event also is a commencement ticket pick-up location.

Professional Headshots (Thursday, May 2, 4-5 p.m.)

As you graduate from college and plan on entering the real world, having a formal headshot is a must. Whether your LinkedIn profile picture needs updated or you’d like a picture to attach to a resume, photographers will be available in the Student Union lobby. The headshots will be emailed to you after the event, which again serves as a pick-up for commencement tickets.

Senior Spaghetti Dinner (Thursday, May 2, 5 p.m.)

Graduating seniors gather for one final meal in the MDR, hosted by the Alumni Advisory Board. This farewell dinner celebration is served by faculty and staff, and it includes door prizes and free giveaways.

Commencement Rehearsal (Friday, May 3, 2 p.m.)

Although not one of the most entertaining events of Grad Week, this rehearsal, held in the Cap Center’s Field House, is probably the most important, and it is mandatory for all graduating seniors.

President’s Barbeque (Friday, May 3, 3 p.m.)

As Grad Week comes to a close, let President Paul treat you to a delicious BBQ, held on Saylor-Ackermann’s Quad.

Capital University 2019 Commencement (Saturday, May 4, 2 p.m.)

Finally, the moment you’ve been waiting for! Family and friends of graduating seniors are encouraged to arrive to the Cap Center’s Field House early (doors open at 12:30 p.m.), and tickets are required (see pick-up locations listed above).
