Jaime Pardo, photographer, bids farewell

(Insert cliché happy college story)

Saying goodbye to Capital is such sweet sorrow. I have had such a wonderful experience here since the very beginning when I participated in the Smooth Transitions week. From dusk ’til dawn we were busy with roller skating, going shirtless on stage in a hypnosis show, pool parties, etc.

I had never intended to join the newspaper staff; I just happened get some fun pictures during the opening week, and they wanted to use them at the opening ceremony. From there someone suggested that I talk to Diana Crandall, and the rest is history.

Though unintentional, I am glad I did, because I got to see and take pictures of some cool stuff. More than a few people thought my first cover of the guy surfing on the Cap fountain was real, but I also took pictures of every sport Cap offers, a drag show, recitals, and plays (I actually got to play a “nerd” in the 80s Prom Play my first year here). My comic series “Jack & Jillian” was fun to make; there were so many fun photos.

The New York trip with The Chimes was fun, even though I didn’t plan on sleeping in the same room as a very loud snoring roommate. Meh, sleep is optional in college, right?

I could fill a book with all of my Capital stories and probably will. When I walk through the Capital gate, I am walking away with fond memories, good friends, and, oh yeah, I got an education! (\cliché happy college story)
