The Chimes staff wins multiple awards in New York City

The Chimes’ staff won two awards at a national competition in New York City. The awards were distributed on March 11 during the annual spring College Media Association convention.

For the small school division, the staff received third place for its website, www.cuchimes.com.

For the Chimes print edition, the staff received an honorable mention.

The small school division includes four-year institutions nationwide with 1,000 to 2,999 student enrollments.

“I am honored that we received these awards,” Shirleeah Pasco, editor-in-chief, said. “The staff has worked incredibly hard this year, so seeing that payoff is an amazing feeling. I hope that we continue this streak in future years.”

The Chimes’ advisor Kelly Messinger also applauded the staff’s wins.

“No one sees how hard this staff works, but I know they put in the hours and care about how their efforts look to their readers,” Messinger said.

During the trip to New York City, staff members who attended the conference had the opportunity to attend sessions with numerous speakers, including journalists and leadership from The New York Times and CNN.

“NYC granted us opportunities to network and meet inspiring individuals in our field,” said Kevin Capron, social media manager. “But, most importantly, bestowed a fresh mindset and a new eagerness to get out there and create.”

Between sessions at the convention, the attending staff got to explore New York City.
