Covid-19 challenges creates virtual Pride celebration

An email was sent out May 29, 2020 from Denise Russell to all students and staff regarding the upcoming month for celebrating LGBTQ+, which is during the month of June. Due to the current pandemic with COVID-19, the annual Columbus Stonewall Pride Parade has been postponed until October 3, 2020. Capital University will now be hosting a virtual Pride celebration every week over Zoom, which you can RSVP to at the link here

Each week has a different theme, and before each meeting a Zoom link will be emailed out so that everyone who wants to join is able to. The dates that these meetings will be held on are June 3, June 10, June June 17, and June 24. All from 12pm – 1pm.

To start off, Week 1 centers around virtual safe space training. Week 2 will feature a discussion led by Professor Mark Strasser on LGBTQIA+ issues brought before the Supreme Court. Week 3 will find participants studying the essays of Audre Lorde. Week 4 concludes with a session on understanding the history and culture of the Pride community. That includes watching the documentary, Circus of Books
