Columbus Chamber of Commerce partners with students on podcast

The Columbus Chamber of Commerce will be partnering with students in the Audio Engineering Society (AES) to reimagine a podcast series focusing on local businesses.

Joe Bellfy, director of marketing and engagement for the chamber, reached out to Chad Loughrige, assistant professor of music, over the summer about having AES students work on a podcast called “Cbuzz.”

“I thought that this would be a great service project for [AES students], a great community connection to Columbus and an amazing networking opportunity,” Loughrige said.

The chamber wanted to work with Capital students because Capital is a member of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, and working on the podcast would give audio students experience in the professional world.

The original “Cbuzz” series started in 2015 and ended last spring. It featured local businesses and entrepreneurs, such as Late Night Slice and Crimson Cup, but many of them weren’t members of the chamber. The marketing team for the chamber, Bellfy and Courtney West, want to revamp the podcast to feature solely chamber of commerce members, with each episode being around 20 to 25 minutes.

The students working on “Cbuzz” would be responsible for recording and editing the podcast and working with the chamber’s marketing team to focus in on the target audience.

The Columbus Chamber of Commerce is a member-funded organization that provides services to businesses. As a member of the chamber, a business has access to networking, help with government relations and help with recruiting new employees. Much of their membership consists of small businesses.

“We serve as a voice of the small business community in the region,” Bellfy said.

The “Cbuzz” series will be available on the Columbus Chamber of Commerce website and on iTunes. Bellfy and West said they hope to begin recording the podcast within the next month and are currently searching for a host and guests for the episodes.
