Every October, students at the university dress up as their favorite characters and spend time with friends and family to celebrate Halloween. This is a special holiday because it allows people to show off their styles and interests and has become synonymous with self-expression.
Halloween costumes can be inspired by a number of different aspects, whether it be pop culture or childhood icons. Halloween at the university will be celebrated all over campus, whether it’s at haunted houses or spooky get togethers; most importantly, there will be costumes!
Halloween has been celebrated for many centuries, but one reason the holiday is so loved is that it permits people of all ages to dress up and enjoy themselves with their close friends and family. Also, the holiday allows for participants to form new relationships and bond with others over their similarities; dressing up gives people the perfect opportunity to show off their interests and individuality.
Every year, there are stand-out costumes, but they fluctuate constantly; however, some costumes are cultural mainstays for “spooky season.”
According to question boards posted around campus, some of the most popular costumes are:
Darth Vader, Batman, Catwoman, The Joker, Ghostface (“Scream” franchise), Beetlejuice, Toothless (“How to Train Your Dragon”) and Miles Morales (“Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse” series).
Although some of these costumes will be of the same characters, students often pride themselves on making their outfits unique. Instead of buying the entire costume, many students have decided to personalize their costumes and use thrift stores to find cheaper and more environmentally friendly looks.
Another popular way to celebrate Halloween with friends and family is through group costumes, which have recently become extremely popular. Some common group outfits are characters from Scooby-Doo, Marvel and Disney. Having coordinated outfits with friends can allow for a more exciting and joyful experience.
Even though there are many different possible outfit choices, expressing oneself cannot be done incorrectly. Whether someone decides to wear a scary, funny, or extravagant costume, the holiday provides the perfect opportunity to step outside of comfort zones and allow creativity to shine through.
